Orders were issued for the muster out on June 2 2, 1865, and the regiment was mustered out on June 30, 1865. Captain Berry ha d remained in command of the regiment from the middle of the Atlanta Campaign until the final muster out. Note 2: Donald Franklin Kirk is in possession o f a dresser given to one set of the Kirks before they left Austria. It was hand made as a wedding gift. Inside the dresser are many small animals carve d from driftwood made by the Kirk sailor. Note 3: Story told by Mona Kirk Summers: I was also told that as one group of Kirk's prepared to leave for Tn one unfortunate gentleman tossed his shotgun onto a pack loaded on a horse.
