a. Note:   t to New Orleans to join his father, and the following spring returned to RI. and was appointed, on arriving at his majority, agent of the Eagles Mills for John Waterman & Co. He held this position until 1847. He helped to build the first cotton mill in Warren, RI. At the time of his death the company was worth $600,000. He was also a bank president and director of several insurance companies. He died very suddenly of a heart ailment.
Note:   He learned the mill business in the Union Mill at Olneyville, RI. where his father was agent, and at the Blackstone Mill. Until he was 18 he went to school and worked in the mills. He served as representative for Providence, RI. In 1830 he wen
