  Thomas, son of Robert and Rachell EDGOOSE, was baptised at Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, on 18 April 1636. Robert EDGOOSE had married Rachel RAMSHAWE at St. Peter's In Eastgate, Lincoln, on 27 June 1633.
  In 1656 the bank of the River Glen was breached in the village of Pinchbeck and Matthew PENWELL was paid half a crown 'for two days and a half when the water brake in the town'. He lived on the north of the river near Herring Bridge and he and Thomas EDGOOSE, who lived on Cuckoo Lane just north of Crossgate Bridge, mended the burst bank which took them two days.   Thomas EDGOOSE married Elizabeth DAUBNEY at Bicker, Lincolnshire, on 14 May 1663.

Rectory of Gosberton alias Gosberkirk, and the Parishes of Surfleet, Quadring and Alderkirk, in the hundred of Kirton. Tithes. To the eighteenth Interr' this Depont. saith that he hath been imployed by the farmer of the Rectory of Gosbertowne aforesd to collect the duty of two pence halfe peny, Comonly knowne by the name of fire or firehearth money of eu'ry househoulder in Gosbertowne aforesd and that it hath constantly paid or ought to haue beene paid amongst other Easter Reckonings to the use of the farmer of the said Rectory and that all & eu'y householder wth in the said pish as well poore as rich inhabiting there though they haue noe tythable cattle or Comodity doe & haue paid the same to him this Depont. for the use of the farmer of the Rectory aforesaid for diu's yeares last past as well as such psons wth hab (?) tythable Comodityes & paid their tythes ouer & besides the sd duty of firehearths To the Nyneteenth Interr' this Depont. saith that he for diuers yeares last past hath beene imloyed and hath receiued for the use of the farmer of the said Rectory of Gosbertowne aforesd ou' & aboue the said Duty of two pence halfepeny called firehearth all or most of Small tythes or Compositions for tythes (vizt.) two pence a Cow twopence a Calfe, two pence for eu'y Acre of Meadow foure pence for eu'y foale payable at Easter for such Calfes & foales there fallen before that time and other Small tythes in the Interr'. menconed were Collected for the use of the farmer of the Rectory of Gosbertowne aforesd.   Depositions taken at the White Hart in Spalding on 20 April 1672 Thomas EDGOOSE of Gosbertowne in the County of Lincoln husb: aged thirty yeares or thereabouts sworne & examined on the pt & behalfe of Charles SKYPWITH Esq pst saith as followeth viz To the First Interrogatory this deponent saith that he knoweth the ptyes Complt. & defendts. and hath knowne them by the space of tenne yeares or thereabout To the Fifth Interr. this depont. saith that the depasturing, grasing, Feeding and well keeping of a Steare in the grounds in the pish of Gosbertowne aforesd or any other towne in the Hundred of Kirton may be worth thirteene shillings and foure pence the yeare, And that the de pasturing, grasing, feeding and well keeping of an Ox in the same Groundes may be worth Twenty shillings a yeare, and that the depasturing, grasing, feeding and well keeping of a Calfe in good grounds in the sd pish and Hundred may be worth six shillings and eight pence a yeare, And further to this Interr cannot depose To the sixth Interr this Depont. saith that he doth not know that the defts. or any of them doe commonly use any Steares, oxen or other barren fatt and Fatting catell in the way of husbandry in their draughts Carts ploughs or pale And that he doth not know that all the defendts. doe commonly breed reare up and keepe and buy in to Stocke their Grounds Barren Fatt and Fatting Cattell And that they doe sell them againe with intencon of profitt. To the sixth Interrogatorie saith that he being servant to the Complt hath knowne the defendts for the space of Nine yeares and every of them pay to the Complt in and for the severall yeares one thousand six hundred sixtie and two And one thousand six hundred sixty three And one thousand six hundred sixtie and six And one thousand six hundred sixtie and seaven And one thousand six hundred sixtie and eight And one thousand six hundred sixtie and Nyne And one thousand six hundred and seaventie these severall tythes followeing or satisfaction for them that is to say for every Communicant in their respective familyes two pence For every milch Cow or Cowe that hath a Calfe two pence for every calfe two pence And for every Acre of meadowe that the said defendts have respectively mowed and made into hay in the yeares aforesaid in the said towne of Gosberton two pence And for every Foole Four pence And for their respective Fire hearths two pence halfe penny And for wooll and Lamb, pigg, and goose honey and wax and Hempe and flax And all manner of Corne and Graine in the severall yeares aforesaid the Complt hath received fully of the defendts in Kinde or satisfaction for them And this depont saith that the defendts and every of them have payd all their tithes due to the Complt for the said yeares except tythe claymed for Fatt and barren Cattle not imployed by the plow and paile And that this depont doth beleeve that the severall tythes aforesaid due from the defendts respectively to the Complt in the other two yeares (vizt) in the yeares One thousand six hundred sixtie and four And one thousand six hundred sixtie and five (except the tythe claymed by the Complt for fatt and barren cattle) are likewise payd and satisfied to the Complt for that in his owne knowledge some some of the tythes for those two yeares were satisfied and he liveing in the same parish in those same yeares doth beleeve the residue to be payd and satisfied and Further to this Interrogat he cannot depose (Exchequer Depositions by Commission - TNA E.134 24 Chas.   Depositions taken at Spalding on 16 April 27 Chas II (1675) John HATCHER, William SKIPWITH, plaintiffs Samuel RIDLEY, defendant. Marsh lands called Sir Robert Carr's Marsh in the parish of Gosbertowne, alias Gosberkirke, in the County of Lincoln. Tithes. Thomas EDGOOSE of Gosberton in the County of Lincoln husbandman aged about forty yeares sworne & examined saith saith (sic) as followeth To the first Interrogatory this deponent saith that he knoweth the Complainants and the Defendant And hath knowne the Complainants for eight yeares last past and upwards And the defendant he hath knowne about foure yeares And did know Charles SKIPWITH Esq. for about twelve or thirteene yeares before his death And further to this Interrogatory he can'ot depose To the second Interrogatory this depont saith that he doth know the Marsh lands in the Interrogatory menc'oned And hath knowne the same for seaven yeares last past And saith that the said Marsh hath been reputed to conteyne three hundred thirty & five acres And further to this Interrogatory he can'ot depose To the third Interrogatory this depon't can't depose further then to the second Interrogatory he hath already deposed To the fourth Interrogatory this depon't saith that the defend't and his undertenants had in their tenures in the yeare one thousand six hundred seaventy and one about eight schore acres of the Marsh And that Mr. MORTON that yeare had another parcell of the said Marsh reputed to be five schore acres And that one Edward REMINGTON for the same yeare had in tenure the remaining part of the said Marsh reputed to be about seaventy and five acres but whether as undertenants to the defendt this depont knoweth not And that some part of the said Marsh in the defendts tenure in the yeare one thousand six hundred seaventy one or one thousand six hundred seaventy two was mowne and made into hay but what number of acres he soe mowed this depont knoweth not And further to this Interrogatory he canot depose To the fifth Interrogatory this depont saith that he doth knowe that twelve pence an acre by forreyners hath beene formerly paid as a rate tythe yearely for the said Marsh land And this depont saith he did himself on or about the yeare one thousand six hundred seaventy receive of one Mr. John TAILORR who was then tenant to all the said Marsh and a Forreyner twelve pence the acre for the tythe of the said Marsh for three hundred thirty and five acres the full quantity of acres the said Marsh is reputed to conteyne for the use of Mr. Charles SKIPWITH for whome he collected the same And doth know the said tythe for the same number of acres of the said Marsh at the rate of twelve pence the acre was paid to the said Mr. Charles SKIPWITH for one or two yeares before the said yeare one thousand six hundred and seaventy though this depont did not receive the same And this depont further saith that he this depont in the yeare one thousand six hundred seaventy one did receive of Mr. James MORTON who was then tenant for five schore acres pcell of the said Marsh twelve pence an acre for every of the said acres as a rate tythe for the same for that yeare and alsoe he received in the same yeare of one Edward REMINGTON who was tenant to seaventy and five acres another parcell of the said Marsh twelve pence an acre for ev'y of the said acres as a rate tythe alsoe for the same for that yeare the number of acres soe received for as above from the said MORTON & REMINGTON being according to the reputative quantity of three hundred thirty five acres pporconablely for the whole Marsh And further deposeth not Thomas EDGOOSE of Gosbertowne aforesaid lately produced sworne and examined on the parte and behalfe of the said Complts And now sworne and Crosse examined on the part and behalf of the said deft saith as followeth: To the third Interrogatory this Dopont saith that he doth know the said towne of Gosbertowne and hath knowne the same by the space of fourteene of fifteene years last past and hath alsoe knowne a certaine Marsh lyeing in Gosbertowne aforesd called by the name of Sir Robert CARR's Marsh by the space of seven yeares or there abouts and that he hath heard the said Marsh durenig all that time been reputed as well to conteyne the number of two hundred and forty acres or thereabouts as also the said Marsh to conteyne the number of three hundred and thirty five acres And this depont further saith that he hath and doth beleive that the yearely rate tythe of and for the tythe of all the said Marsh hath been paid by Forraignors at the right of twelve pence the acre for other yeares when mowne or S.. .. eaten according to the antient computac'on rate of twelve score acres or there aboutes But in truly according to the new computacion he hath received the yearly rate tythe of twelve pence the acre issuenig out of the the said Marsh for the yeare one Thousand six hundred and seventy for three hundred and thirty and five acres and for the yeare one Thousand six hundred seventy one he did likewise receive the tythe rate of twelve pence the acre for one hundred seventy and five acres of the said Marsh according to the new computac'on of thre hundred and thirty five acres and did know that for two yeares before the same quantitye of acres was paid for by a Forraigner after the said yearly rate of twelve pence the acre And this depont further saith that for the yeare one Thousand six hundreds seventy foure he being one of the Overseers of the Poore of Gosbertowne aforesd did demand and receive of the severall occupyers of the said Marsh two pence by the acre for every acre ...... in the said Marsh according to the customary Computac'on of twelve score acres and noe more And that according to the said Comutac'on of twelve score acres the occupiers of the said Marsh have and did constantly use to pay to church poore and constable and that the officers and Inhabitants of the said Towne have by a customary computac'on of acres constantly used amongst themselves charged the said Marsh and all other Marshes within the said parish to all parish dutyes whereto the said Marshes are chargeable and ... according to Statute measure and further he deposeth not (Exchequer   "In the name of God amen the twelfe day of July 1688 according to the Computation of the Church of England I Thomas EDGOOSE of Gosbertowne in the County of Lincoln and partes of Holand Husband man being of perfet memorey and Remembrance prased be God doe make and ordane this my Last will and testament in maner and form following ffirst I Give and bequeth my soule in to the Handes of all mighty God my maker hoping that through the meritoarious death and passion of Jesus Christ my only saviour and Redeemer to Receive free pardon and forgivenes of all my sin and as for my Body to be buried in Christon Burell at the Discresion of my Executores here after nominated.
