Note: JOHN EDGOOSE 1601-1668 John, son of John EDGOOSE, was baptised at Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, on 27 September 1601. John EDGOOSE had married Margret BEATCH at Pinchbeck on 26 May 1601. An Index to the Will of John EDGOOSE (1575-1630) of Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire: John EDGOOSE, the Testator *John EDGOOSE (1601-1668), eldest son of the Testator Mr. Dymocke WALPOLE (????-1652), adjoining land owner Margaret EDGOOSE formerly BEATCH (15??-1614), the Testator's late wife Thomas EDGOOSE (1606-1640), son of the Testator's marriage to Margaret BEATCH Elizabeth EDGOOSE (1609-1685), daughter of the Testator's marriage to Margaret BEATCH Elizabeth EDGOOSE formerly PILKINGTON, the Testator's second wife Theodocia EDGOOSE, daughter of the Testator's marriage to Elizabeth PILKINGTON Anthony EDGOOSE, son of the Testator's marriage to Elizabeth PILKINGTON Richard EDGOOSE, son of the Testator's marriage to Elizabeth PILKINGTON William SLATER, supervisor and witness Arthur BURD, supervisor Robert HARINSON, witness William HARVIE, witness (Lincoln Consistory Court Will 1630/454) John EDGOOSE married Rachell BIRD at Pinchbeck on 19 January 1631/32. In her book 'Geese, Gowts and Gallygaskins' Judith Withyman wrote that "Rachael BIRD, the nineteen year old daughter of Arthur the member of an arms bearing family which had come down from Penrith to seek their fortune, was pregnant when she married John EDGOOSE, a husbandman's son, in 1632. He was thirty one and his father had died eighteen months before the wedding and it may be significant that his future father in law was a signatory to his own father's inventory. The couple had thirty-five years of marriage and ten children, six of whom survived, three having good Puritan names of Joseph, Jeremiah and James." In fact there is no evidence that Rachael was pregnant when she married John EDGOOSE in January 1631/32. Her first child John EDGOOSE was baptised at Pinchbeck on 8 August 1633 followed by eight siblings rather than nine between 1635 and 1655. John, son of John and Rachel EDGOOSE, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 8 August 1633 and buried there on 1 March 1634. John, son of John and Rachel EDGOOSE, was baptised at Pinchbeck on 16 July 1635. James, son of John EDGOOSE, was buried at Pinchbeck on 27 August 1638.
