ABSTRACT FROM Ripley County DEMOCRAT 28 Aug 1908 SLAYTON FAMILY,- first REUNION IN 45 YEARS A family reunion at the home of John Tom Slayton yesterday (Thursday. as the paper was printed on a Friday) consisted of a meeting of six uncles of John Tom, the first time they had been together in 45 years. or since 1863. Of the Slayton family which came to Randolph County Ark., from Gibson County, Tenn, in 1859, there were nine sons and 3 daughters. All of these were not born in Tennessee as the father of John Tom, who was the oldest of the boys. was born in Virginia and came to Tennessee with his parents when seven years old. The six brothers living and present at the reunion yesterday -their names, ages, places of residence, number of children living and dead, are as follows: Joseph P [sic- A] Slayton, age 66, lives near Kingbee, MO, born in Tenn, 9 living children 4 dead. Green D Slayton, age 64. lives in Oklahoma, born in Tenn, 6 living children, l dead. Alexander W Slayton. age 63, lives near Pocahontas. Ark, born in Tenn,7 living children, 2 dead. Able W Slayton. age 61, lives near Pocahontas. Ark, born in Tenn,8 living children, 4 dead. Benjamin W. Slayton. age 55. lives near Kingbee, MO, born in Tenn, 3 living children, 5 dead. George W Slayton, age 53. the youngest of the brothers. born in Tenn, lives near Pocahontas. Ark, 7 living children, 1 dead. Also present were Will Russell and family and Alderman Tom Poston. his wife and daughter. Mrs Russell and Mrs Poston being daughters of "Uncle Joe" Slayton. the oldest one of the brothers living. The six brothers had 40 living children and 17 dead. The three dead brothers had but 2 children between them. John Tom Slayton being the only child of one, [sic, census suggests early death of brother George] another had a girl and the other had no issue.
