Notes
a. Note:   --Surname alternately spelled Hoover, Huver or Hoober in records --Y DNA Haplogroup I2b1 (renamed I2a2a ?) as per recent testing of a male descendant. --1776, July 7, Hagerstown, Washington Co MD records show the baptism of three sons of JACOB HUBER and wife (unamed) in the German Reformed church. Children were: WILHELM HUBER b June 22, 1776; CHRISTOFEL HUBER b Nov 6, 1770 and JOHANN ADAM HUBER born Ap ril 6, 1773. The children may or may not have been born in Hagerstown, Washington Co MD, because they were born in different years and all baptized on the same day. Don't know what happened to CHRISTOFEL & JOHANN ADAM HUBER; they were not named in JACOB HUBER's 1803 will, Berlin, Somerset Co PA. --June 6, 1792 land deed from Peter SWITZER Sr & wife Maria Veronica Franey, of Brother's Valley Twp, Bedford/Somerset Co PA to JACOB HOOVER; another source shows land deed same day to JOHN HOOVER/HUBER of Bedford Co PA, who is also in census & tax lists as early as 1776 in Brother's Valley twp, Bedford/ Somerset Co PA (see index). --JOHN HOOVER/HUBER Sr attended the same church as JACOB HUBER Sr & his son WILLIAM/WILHELM HUBER in Berlin Somerset Co PA (German Reformed / Evangelical Lutheran as per church records). --Neither JOHN HOOVER/HUBER nor JACOB HOOVER/HUBER appear to be closely related to the other Huber/Hoover family in Brother's Valley twp, that of CASPER HOOVER/HUBER. JACOB HUBER Sr and JOHN HUBER Sr lived in the town of Berlin; CASPER and his sons GEOR GE, MICHAEL & FREDERICK were in Brother's Valley twp, but not in town of Berlin. However they all did belong to the same church, so I am not ruling out anything at this point. --DOES NOT APPEAR IN SOMERSET OR BEDFORD CO PA RECORDS BEFORE 1792; NOT IN 1790 CENSUS THERE. --June 10 1793 Baptism of David Ritschy b Feb 14, 1793, son of Daniel Ritschy & Catherine; notes parents on way to Kentucky. Witnessed by ELDER JACOB HUBER and DEACON GEORGE FREY (FRY) German Reformed /Evangelical Lutheran Church, Berlin, Bedford/ Somerse t Co PA (Somerset Co PA formed from Bedford in 1795) --1796 tax list Somerset Co PA Brothers Valley twp, near JACOB KEFFER Sr, listed as "JACOB HOOVER". --1797 March 23 JACOB HUBER and wife as witnesses to the baptism of Adam Schunk, son of Simeon Schunk, at the German Reformed / Evangelical Lutheran Congregational Church in Berlin, Somerset Co PA --1800 Somerset Co, Brother's Valley twp, town of Berlin tax list, as "JACOB HOOVER" --1800 Somerset Co PA census, Brother's Valley township, town of Berlin, near son WILLIAM/WILHELM HUBER; listed as JACOB HUBER, Sen. elderly couple; next to JOHN HUBER, elderly couple (brother?). --1803 Died Aug 10th as per will in Somerset Co PA. Son WILLIAM/WILHELM was listed as executor, and only child mentioned. --WILL OF JACOB HOOVER/HUBER Sr, transcribed from the original; probated Aug 1803 Berlin, Brother's Valley Township, Somerset Co PA: In the Name of God Amen. I JACOB HOOVER of the town of Berlin, in the township of Brother's Valley, and county of Somerset and state of Pennsylvania, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following--first I give and bequeath to my beloved wife MAGDALENA HOOBER the dwelling house wherein I now live, with all the lots that I now own and occupy in the town of Berlin, laying on the North street on the north side of the street adjoining Beck street No. 22-23-24 all in one square, to keep them in her possession as long as she lives for her comfort. At her decease all the property real and personal I give to my son WILLIAM HOOBER a s for a recompence for keeping my wife his mother at her house or at his own house. For his trouble I give and bequeath to my wife her bed close (sic) and one iron pott, one iron kettle, tea kettle, one (illegible) dish, two pleats (plates), four spoons, one coffee mill and her chest, and the rest of my hous furnituer I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM HOOBER, one house clock, one grind stone, and all the rest of what kind and name or what nature they may be of, bequeath to my son WILLIAM HOOBER; and i f my wife should mary agin (sic) or should leve my son WILLIAM HOOVER, then my son WILLIAM should not be bound to give her any support of any the aforementioned articles, but in case she stays with him, he is to provide all necessaries for her during life --and lastly I do hereby appoint my son WILLIAM HOOBER the sole executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by one made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of June in the year of ou r Lord, Eighteen Hundred and Three. Signed, Sealed, Published and Declared by the above named JACOB HOOBER to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of and at the request of the testator. ABRAHAM CABLE, GEORGE JOHNSON, HENRY GIESEY** ** (This is REVEREND HENRY GIESE who emigrated from Germany in 1770s, previous to 1794 he was pastor of the German Reformed / Evangelical Lutheran Church of Loudon Co VA; later became pastor of Glade Reformed Church, Somerset Co PA 1812-1833. His son VA LENTINE GIES/GIESE/GIESEY witnessed the baptismal record of WILLIAM WILHELM HUBER's daughter, ANNA MARIA HUBER b April 4, 1799 Berlin, Somerset Co PA, see index). --WILLIAM/WILHELM HUBER signed the original estate inventory for his father JACOB HUBER Sr, and this signature is clearly the same as the signature on the original of his own will, proved April 1, 1835 Hocking Co Ohio. --The estate inventory is quite lengthy, as is the list of debts owed; names include REV H GIESE, ABRAHAM CABLE, JACOB KEFFER and many more. JACOB HUBER would have been considered quite wealthy for the times.
