Later in life he often signed his name H. N. H. Daughter PHEBE BROWN age 12 remained with her half sister EMMA (Myers) EMERY in Sacramento. \par --1880 Mono Co CA census, town of Lundy; HENRY was the Wells Fargo Agent and notary public in Lundy, Mono county CA (near the gold mining town of Bodie, which is now a CA state historical park). FRANK his son was an assayer and had an office in both Bod ie and Lundy (as per book, "Lundy" by Alan H Patera ) HENRY retired in 1885 and returned to Sacramento. \par --1881 Elko Co NV; H N H Brown takes out a land patent for 50 acres \par --1889 H N H Brown witnessed patent of Alfred M Whitley of Sacramento for a chair attachment \par --1892 Sacramento; CA state Legislature; H N H Brown paid a small amount for being a "stairman" (usher?). \par --1897 March 16; H N H Brown died in Sacramento CA. Death certificate says cause of death was pneumonia. He also apparently had heart problems. \par --Obituary Transcribed from Sacramento CA Daily Record-Union, Thursday March 18, 1897 DEATH OF H.N.H. BROWN "An Old and Esteemed Citizen to be Buried Today. The death is announced of H.N.H. BROWN, an old and highly esteemed citizen, who had long been a su fferer from heart trouble. Mr. Brown was a native of Sanbornton, New Hampshire, and was 72 years of age. Coming to California some forty-four years ago (1850?) he entered into the employ of Leland Stanford (should read D C Stanford), then a prominent merc hant at Negro Hill, near Folsom. Later he was in the employ of W.R.Strong (American Seed Store) of this city, and subsequently with Wells, Fargo & Co. \par Deceased leaves a son and daughter, FRANK R. BROWN of Alaska, and Mrs. PHEBE RHODES of Victoria B.C.( Canada), also several brothers and sisters in the East. He was very prominent in Masonic circles, and the funeral will take place under the auspices of that order this afternoon" \par --He is buried in the old Masonic Cemetery in Sacramento, CA.
