Evelynne writes, I was Daddy's ‘water boy' when he was working in the field, taking him a gallon of water in the morning and again in the afternoon. One day, the temperature was about 112, and he was at the extreme far end of the field. I thought I was never going to get there, it was so hot and the bucket was so heavy. I don't know if he or I was more upset when I finally got there and it was a gallon of syrup.
Mansel had Evelynne listen to ball games on the radio and write down everything that happened while he was working. That is undoubtedly why she has had a lifelong aversion to all sports., ,
