 Jesse Kern, most likely as a college student at Scarritt-Morrisville College, Morrisville, Mo. He worked as a Methodist minister, a high school teacher, a newspaper editor and a rail postal worker. As a teacher, he taught mathematics in Mancos, Colo. As a newspaper editor, he published articles favorable to striking silver miners in LaVita, Colo. The state militia shut down the newspaper. When the strike was done, miners gave him 50 silver dollars in thanks for his help. As a minister, he served congregations in Colorado, Virginia and Missouri.
