Notes
a. Note: NI16
Note: After the death of his first wife Ida, in New Jersey, Andrew remarried. His second wife was Chinese (name unknown). Per a family member, his second wife was the daughter of a Chinese merchant. They met at the American University in Washington, DC, and later went to China to live. One report is that Uncle Andy, his wife and 2 of his daughters were killed during the Chinese/Japanese war in the late 1930's. An obituary, from a NJ newspaper, that a family member provided indicates that Andrew died June 24, 1938 of apparent natural causes. Per that obituary, the following was reported: "Gaining the friendship of General Chang Kai-shek, Mr. Harper supervised, without pay, the building of a military road from Southern China to the Yangste River, over which the general's victorious armies marched in 1927."
