a. Note:   ved next to Zepheniah Townsend. His household consisted of one male under five and one female age 16-26.
  1820 U.S. Census Mentz Town[ship], Cayuga County, New York. Nathan lived a woman age 26-45 [fits his first wife Mary Shoemaker], one son 10-16, four sons under 10 and one daughter under ten.
  1830 U.S. Census Mentz Town[ship] Cayuga County, New York. Nathan lived with five sons and two daughters. No wife. Using the 1830 Census it appears that Mary and Nathan had eight children, a son born in 1810, Henry in 1812, a girl between 1813 and 1815, Alfred in 1817, Nathan in 1820, a boy between 1821 and 1825, and another boy between 1826 and 1830. [Not likely after 1826 as the mother was dead by then.]
  1840 U.S. Census Butler Town[ship] Wayne County New York lists Nathan living with a two females age 30-40 and twelve children --the Cramton children of his second wife Nancy, the Townsend children of his first wife, and his and Nancy's children together.
  1850 U.S. Census Lapeer County, Michigan list Nathan and his family at Elba township. In 1860 the family is there but Nathan has died.
  Wayne County, New York deed listing Nancy Cramton as Nathan's wife in 1840 when Nathan sold property to Cook Cramton.

  Wayne Co. New York property deeds. Nathan purchased property in Galen, 10 May 1843 from Josiah and Mary Goodrich. He sold property in Galen and the and the village of Clyde 22 April 1846.

  "Awards Soldiers of War of 1812" #14,104 - page 490 lists a Nathan Townsend, Denmark, N. Y. being allowed $16 as reward. [Since there were three Nathan Townsends in New York at this time period, I do not know if this is Alfred's father.]
