Notes
a. Note:   President, Baltimore Women's Civic League - 1951 Daughters of the American Revolution
President, College Club (Baltimore Chapter of the American Association of University Women)
"Audrey Allen was born on December 26, 1904 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the only child of Evangeline DeNyse and James Pryer Allen. She recalled being tutored at home during her earliest years. It wasn't until the age of 10 that she attended public schools. Audrey graduated from Mount Holyoke College as a psychology major in 1926 and married C. Sewell Weech [Sr.], who was ten years older than she was. Their first home was in Annapolis, Maryland, but most of their married life was spent in downtown Baltimore apartments. She was a talented pianist and took piano lessons for most of her life (in her later years, her son Sewell Jr. paid for the lessons to encourage her). She was a very pretty, sweet, bright and loving lady. Audrey was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Baltimore Civic League, a travel club and a drama club. In fact, she was President of the Baltimore Civic League, which was a high profile job for a woman at that time.
"Although her husband's father [Robert William Henry Weech] was a Methodist minister of renown and her husband was a staunch supporter of the Methodist church, Audrey never gave up her membership in the Episcopal Church. She did, however, often accompany her husband to Methodist services. Their son, Sewell Jr., was sent to a Presbyterian Sunday school.
"Audrey's husband was a strict teetotaler. Audrey was known to keep sherry in a bathroom medicine bottle and to occasionally take long, leisurely baths on Saturday nights!
"Audrey was a very overprotective, doting mother to her only son, C. Sewell Weech, Jr. My husband recalled having to put on a raincoat and hat and standing in the bathtub in order to light sparklers on the Fourth of July! When the Linberg kidnapping made headlines, Audrey had bars installed on Sewell's bedroom windows.
"Audrey never learned to drive a car and she never cooked a meal that I know of. For many years she had a black cook, Helen, and Helen's daughter Emma did the cleaning. When Helen died, Emma took over the cooking and cleaning. Audrey was somewhat shy and demure, but also very sweet and interested in other people. Before I married her son, a friend of Audrey's said to me: 'I don't know what kind of husband you'll be getting, but I guarantee that you're getting tops in mothers-in-law.' She was right!"
