Note: Enlisted 26 Feb 1862, Co I, 19th (Dawson's) Arkansas Infantry. He was wounded and captured on Jan11, 1863 during the Union attack onn Fort Hindman at Arkansas Post. He wa sent to Camp Douglas, outside Chicago, where he died of smallpox on May 22, 1863. He was buried in Chacoga at Oak Woods Cemetery in a Confederate mound. While he was a prisoner he carvved a pipe out of applewood and managed tosend to his sister Sarah. One of the family still has the pipe with the note that Elias ut inside it.
