Note:   Sion Sanders packed his family and wagons, joined a wagon train to migrated to Texas in 1836.
  They stopped at Rodney, Mississippi, which is now a ghost towm just a few miles north of Natchez., to cross the Mississippi River on the ferry to St. Joseph, Louisiana, Unfortunately, upon their arrival they were told there was a cholera epidemic across the river at St Joseph They planned to wait it out, but the sick heard there was a doctor across the river and sent word he was desperately needed. Dr. Sanders did go, sadly contracted cholera and on his deathbed sent word to his wife to take the family and go back where they came from (Tennessee? Kentucky?). They didn't go home but settled in Kosciusko, Mississippi. That's where Mammy was raised. As long as she lived I remember her talking about how she loved the sandy, loamy soil of Mississippi.
