Notes
a. Note:   Both James' and Emma's obituaries state they were married in 1880. Did the minister record the wrong year, a year and a half after the fact? Even though James and Emma spent most of their adult lives in Linn County, or in Green City, Sullivan Co, MO, no one in the family other than his brothers and sisters, and possibly George's son, Walter, knew they existed.
In 1935 Wilber E. Smith, great-nephew of James, while working on a ranch in Montana was introduced by his father Walter to an Ira Smith and a man who worked for the FBI. Elsworth later wrote the FBI trying to locate his father after Walter disappeared in 1935, but never received an answer.
A loose page in the Daniel Smith bible lists Jim's children as: Bernice, Myrtle, Cliff, Roy, Ira, and Delelah and states he had 6 or 8 kids. Another loose page written on a calendar page for 3 Sep 1972 lists: Delila, Ira, Myrtle, Bernice, Maggie, Lizzie, Roy, and Clifford
Edith COLLINS remembers a visit to her family in Reger, MO on a couple of occasions from an elderly aunt from Green City, but can not remember her name. This could have been Emma SMITH. Story related to Neil Smith
