Note:   John Clements was a party to several land transactions in Amherst County, VA including: An indenture Oct 1802 between Hugh Campbell & Elizabeth his wife of 1st part and Angus McClout and John H. Clements of other part, all of Amherst Co. $250 for tract of land lying on both sides of the South Fork of the Buffaloe River containing 161 acres, part of 190 acres granted to Aaron Higginbotham in patent at Williamsburg on 30 Aug 1763
 Several court records indicate that "John" was sometimes known as "Jonathan" Hilliard after his mother's father. In "The Deeds of Amherst County, Virginia 1800-1827," Books L-R, he is named twice, once in his parents' land transactions and once with Angus MCCLOUT (MCCLOUD), his father-in-law. Both show his name as Jonathan
