Notes
a. Note:   Obit: "Mary 'Evelyn' Smith Pittaway, age 88, a resident of Mesa, Arizona, a former resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away at 1:40 p.m. on July 20, 2003, in Mesa, AZ. She had lived in Mesa since June of 1998 when she moved from Chillicothe to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Glenn Wilson. She was born on January 25, 1915, the daughter of Walter A. and Ada Elizabeth (Rogers) Smith in Reger, Missouri. Evelyn Smith and George Pittaway were married at the Reger Methodist Church on August 16, 1931. George Pittaway was Superintendent of the Ottinger Brothers Construction Company in Oklahoma and several other Midwetern states for many years. During the summer of 1951 the family settled in Chillicothe where George was Superintendent for the Murry Windel Construction Company until his retirement. The Pittaway's purchased Anderson's Dress Shop in downtown Chillicothe in 1968. Mrs. Pittaway later moved the store, the Jean Marie Shop, to the Park Center Shopping Center and continued there until retiring after 20 years, 1968 through 1988, to care for her ailing husband. Mrs. Pittaway's community involvement included being on the board of Hope Haven for 25 years; was a member of the First Methodist Church; the Fact and Fiction Club; the original Chillicothe Saddle Clug; the "TLC" Pinochle group; the United Methodist Women's Organization; the Mary Martha Church Circle; and the Grand River Historical Society and Museum. In her spare time she loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens and canning the yeild. If there was an honor for 'serving others' she would surely be among the top of the list. 'Sitting Down' was not in her vocabulary. She often served anonymously and without fan fair. She always said she was better suited for the 'cooking and cleaning crew' than being in the 'spot light'. Besides her husband, George Pittaway, who passed away in September of 1989, Mrs. Pittaway was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1935, father Walter A. Smith, mother, Ada Elizabeth Rogers Smith, who spent the last eight years of her life with the Pittaways in their Chillicothe home. Mrs. Pittaway was also preceded in death by an elder brother, Irvin Smith; granddaughter,Sharman Smith and great-granddaughter, Emily Smith. Mrs. Pittaway is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deane Janette and Glenn Wilson, Mesa, ZZ; granddaughter, Shelley and Tim Ellegood and great-grandchildren, Steven, Stephanie, Sara and Stacey Corry, of Bedford, KY; and granddaughter, Charlotte and Peter Edwards and great-grandchildren, Colin, Tanner and Brennan Edwards of Westerville, OH; a daughter, Rheta JoAnne Smith of Flagstaff, AZ; grandson Kelly Smith of Flagstaff, AZ, as well as Ian Smith, son of the deceased granddaughter, Sharman Smith, granddaughter, Shauna Smith and husband, Andy Tan of Seattle, WA. Also surviving is a brother, W. Elsworth Smith and sister, Edith Collins of Trenton, MO; a sister-in-law, Grace Smith of Independence, MO. Mrs. Pittaway was blessed with many cousins, nieces and nephews from the Smith, Rogers and Pittaway families"
