Notes
a. Note:   Notice in Missouri Intelligencer (Fayette, MO): "John W. Rawlings, Moniteau Township, has taken up a brown horse. The horse was valued at $15 by David Mullins and Joseph Sidebottom. March 7, 1828 - Justice of the Peace Thomas Rawlings." John and Thomas Rawlings were brothers and David was Thomas' son-in-law
David and family moved to Linn County, then part of Chariton County, in 1834, according to a 1919 letter by daughter Sarah Frances Mullins Hatcher. Sarah and husband William moved to California in 1852 and remained there the rest of their lives
Early settlers Col. A. W. Flournoy, Capt. Jeremiah Phillips, E. T. Dennison, Robert Warren, James Howell, Irvin Ogan, Thomas Botts, Willis Parks, Samson Wyatt, Wharton R. Barton, John Kemper, Thomas Barbee, John Minnis, David Mullins, George Carson, Luke Patrick, and Enoch Kemper [this area would have been in Chariton County in 1836] were the first settlers
These items appeared in the Linn County section of the History of Northeast Missouri:
"April 1837, Organized Linn County into 3 townships Locust Creek (w), Parsons Creek (m), and Yellow Creek (e). At the election held in pursuance to above mentioned order, Thomas Russell and David Mullins were elected Justices of the Peace for Locust Creek Township."
"Others who settled in the county before its organization were...David Mullins. The early settlers were in the main Kentuckyians with a few from Virginia and Tennessee...David Mullins is said to have had the distinction at one time of being the only Whig in the county."
"Professor Rover, who came from Howard County, taught the first school in Linn County in 1837 on S25-T58-R21. He had from 18-20 pupils, among whom were... and the children of David Mullins"
was appointed overseer of a road on 8 Aug 1838 (by the Linn County circuit court).
Birthdate from CLEMENTS family bible in possession of Edith COLLINS in 1999. The bible is actually a few pages from the book which was damaged by water and mice. The writing for the Mullins family and children is all in one hand and appears to have been written at one time, probably Nancy Julia copied the entries from her parents' bible in order to have her own copy. Some subsequent entries are in another hand and in pencil. That handwriting looks like that of Ada Rogers Smith.
According to the 1880 Linn Co., Census - sons Jesse and David listed their parents' birthplace as KY.
1830 Howard County MO census lists a David MULLINS and family with the correct number and age of children to be our David. Another David moved to the county in 1826. Our David is not found in any MO census in 1840
