Notes
a. Note:   n what actually happened in the marriage or what happened to the child. Her 1900 census entry indicated she was divorced and her 1910 census indicated she was widowed, but both stated she was the mother of one child who was deceased. Could this child have been the "Venus Smith niece" listed in her brother-in-law Jacob Schlotterback's 1900 census?
Charles has not been found in any census after 1880, nor has any record of his death been found
From a 8 Mar 1923 Milan newspaper item:
"Mrs. Frank Baskett of Linneus was called to Humphreys last Thursday on account of the serious illness of her sister, Lizzie Smith."
Also from a 22 Mar 1923 newspaper article:
"Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith of Reger came to Humphreys Friday [16 Mar] to help care for Walter and Lizzie Smith, who are very ill. [Writer's note: Lizzie was ill and died shortly thereafter. Brother Walter lived another 33 years]"
Note:   Family tradition told that Lizzie never married. Subsequent research, including her death certificate, indicates she married for about 10 years and had one child with Charles Ashbaugh. It is not know
