Notes
a. Note:   never married. Family history said that John was a lieutenant in the Union Army and died while recovering from a wound inflicted during the Civil War. His name is on a war memorial marker on the lawn of the Sullivan County Courthouse in Milan, MO.
  In the Roster of the Iowa 6th Infantry, Company H - John Rogers e. Jul 15, 1861, vet Jan 1, 1864, wd. Dallas [GA], died at Allatoona [GA].
  US Registers of Deaths of Volunteers = notes died of GunShot wound to neck.
  Ironic bit of history. Walter Smith, son of James and Eliabeth Smith, was in the 6th Iowa Infantry and died at the Battle of Shiloh. Walter's great nephew, Walter Alva Smith, married Ada Rogers. Ada Rogers' great uncle, John Rogers, Jr. was in the 6th Iowa Infantry unit with Walter Smith but in a different company. John Rogers died of wounds in Georgia near the end of the Civil War
