Note: Email correspondence with the grandaughter of James Titherington Hello Margaret I have attached an acrobat file of the 1901 census for James Titherington (Music Teacher). This I think is your grandfather. Your father must have been born after 31 Mar 1901 as he is not on this census. Also I have attached an acrobat file for the ancsetors of James Titherington (your probable grandfather) On the tree, our common ancestor is Benjamin who was born c. 1766 in Newchurch in Pendle. There are a lot of other (sisters and brothers) of the people on the tree which are not shown, that would make it too large and confusing, but I can send different trees showing all the extended family later. If you want me to make a tree which includes you and your father (and anyone else) please send me all the names/dates/events you know. Let me know if you have any problem with the acrobat files. You are the second ex pat relation I have found living in Spain. Last year I found my dads cousin who I never knew about, but my dad did know when they were both kids. She lives in Fuengirola near Marbella and Malaga. She also has a connection with Winewall and can remember (over 50 years ago) coming to Winewall. Several members of my family have now been to meet her and she is coming to meet us this Spring. Kind regards Colin Titherington Dear Colin Thank you very much for the info. I found the tree very interesting (readable with glasses on!!) The James Titherington on the census is definitely my grandfather. I was probably only about 7 when both grandma and soon after grandpa died, circa 1944. I don´t know if he had any brothers or sisters who would obviously be related to me. He had 3 children Harold, Kathleen and James (my father) Harold had one daughter who is now dead, Kathleen had one son with whom I am frequently in touch and who lives at Whalley and I am an only one, so there are no more Titherington names in that tree. Interestingly my mother´s brother (surname Barraclough) also married a Titherington, Gladys Gwendoline, and they had one son with whom I am still in touch and who lives in Nelson. You have obviously done a lot of work and I very much appreciate you passing on this info to me. I had no idea of any names before my grandfather. Similarly I can only go back to grandparents on my mother´s side. That will be a little more difficult as Barraclough is a very common name especially in Yorkshire where my grandmother was born (Bradford) Where do you live, are you still in the Colne area .Are you similar age group to me. I now no longer have any ties with Colne as it is many years since I left there. Although we live in Spain we still have a flat in the U.K. in Burley in Wharfedale near Ilkley. Our daughter who is not yet married lives there too. Our son lives in Beverley and has 4 children. I get back to the U.K. about 3 times a year but my husband a little more frequently. I am rather restricted. We have an ageing, ailing dog and have to find someone to look after her while I am away which is not very easy. My next visit will be towards the end of May. I was interested to hear about the expat in Fuengirola. It is probably about 4 or 5 hours drive from us. We are on the Costa Calida south of Alicante. We have lived here for 12 years and enjoy the climate very much. I hope I haven´t bored you too much with my ramblings. Thank you once more Regards Margaret Campbell jandmcampbell@lamangaclub.ws Dear Colin Thank you once more for the info, it is very interesting. My grandfather appears to have had quite a few brothers and sisters unless I am interpreting wrongly. None of my remaining relatives that I know, have the surname Titherington. My cousin in Nelson is Barraclough and my cousin in Whalley is Phelps. I can give you a little more info regarding spouses of my father´s brother and sister. Harold Titherington married May Sedgewick date not known and Kathleen Titherington married Albert Phelps. Harold and May had one daughter Mary who married Ian(?) Guthrie and had 2 sons Ian and Michael. I don´t know if the sons are still living or not. Kathleen and Albert had one son Edward James who is the cousin living in Whalley. His dated of birth is 17 March 1933. Incidentally my d.o.b. is 4th March. I married Sangster Prentice Campbell (always called Jim) 9th May 1959. His d.o.b. is 20th Feb 1936. My son Stuart James was born 26 Jan 1962 and my daughter Jacqueline Helen 16th March 1964. I don´t know if you want to add this info to anything. Yes we managed to zoom into the attachments but I wanted to print them and wasn´t able to get a reasonable size to print. I intend passing this info to my cousin in Whalley as he is interested in family connections. It was really him who inspired me to start looking. He has met one or two relations on his father´s side which he didn´t know about as a result of their investigations.Unfortunately he doesn´t have a computer but I believe one of his sons does. You are obviously more expert with the computer. I am not very good. I can e.mail write a letter and look things up on the internet, beyond that I need help. My husband is a bit better but no expert. As I mentioned before there are a lot of Barracloughs in Yorks. My grandmother on my mothers side (maiden name Elizabeth Kirby) married James Barraclough. I know very little about him as he apparently walked out on her leaving her with 3 children to bring up on her own. The cousin in Nelson is Edward Albert Barraclough and is in his 80s. I would be interested to see you family tree and where our connection is. You are obviously younger than me. Where in Colne do you live and do you also work in Colne. Before my children were born I worked in Martin´s Bank Colne and then Nelson. My Husband too was in banking and worked for Midland Bank (now HSBC) Colne subsequently moving to Burnley and all round the country. Obviously we are now retired . We came to La Manga Club for the first time in 1985 and liked what we saw. We bought a small 1 bedroom flat which we enjoyed for holidays and gradually moved through a 1 bedroom villa to a 3 bedroom villa when we decided to live here in 1993. If you don´t know anything about LMC, it is a golf and sports complex about the size of Monaco with approx 2000 dwellings. It has 3 golf courses and more than 20 tennis courts as well as many other activities .Naturally we both play golf. For the last 5 years my husband was president of the general community (like mayor of a small town) until he retired in Feb 2005. Now he is free to enjoy more golf and other activities. Well I have rambled on enough now. Kind regards Margaret Campbell
