Maxine graduated from Washington Academy in Machias, Maine; and from University of Maine, Orono, Maine, with Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. Maxine did practice teaching at Lee Academy in Lee, Maine. She became a homemaker upon her marriage to Gerald Robbins in 1952, raising a family of five noisy children. At East Vassalboro she was a member of the DUO Club (do unto others), and the PTA (parent-teacher association). At times she taught a Sunday School class for children at the East Vassalboro Friends Meeting (Quaker). During the 1960's, she was also a substitute teacher at East Vassalboro (Maine) Elementary School, and was a Cub Scouts Den Mother. She [Ethelaine] and I went to a Youth for Christ rally in 1948 at the East Machias Baptist Church. "Grady Wilson led the services and asked people to go forward and accept Jesus as our Savior. She and I went forward together. "Grady Wilson was an associate of Billy Graham. While at U of M [University of Maine, at Orono, Maine] after that I remember listening to Billy Graham on the radio and since then seeing him preaching on TV [television]." -------------------------------------------------------------- [Source: Stanley Robbins, email to Steve Robbins, 28 April 2008.] " Thanks for sending the informaton on the post card on ebay [i.e., post card view titled "East Machias River, looking West".] I showed it to Mom [i.e., Maxine (Gray) Robbins]. She said that she stayed in a house on the street in the foregouund, on the river side of the street. The house isn't visible in the photo. She would walk down the street and cross the bridge to go to school. It was held at the Normal School. That is now the University of Maine [at] Machias. "Yesterday Dad and I went to his Class Reunion which was held in Raymond, Maine at the cottage of a classmate. About 50 people attended, including some spouses who were not in the class of '51. We enjoyed a great picnic lunch which included lobster. It was good to see some old friends again. Plans were made for another reunion next year, their 55th." -------------------------------------------------------------- [Stephen L. Robbins, e-mail message to numerous family and friends, 15 February 2017.] "Maxine (Gray) Robbins has passed away peacefully in her sleep, at about 1:12 am this morning (February 15, 2017). She was at her home in East Vassalboro, Maine, with four of her children present [all except Stephen]. She had been under Hospice care at her home for one week.
