TRAGIC EFFORT TO TAKE OWN LIFE, ENDS IN DEATH
Marie Isaacs of Thompsonville, lingered in agony three weeks afterattempt.
Miss Marie Isaacs 17, of Thompsonville, died at the hospital at 6 o'clockyesterday afternoon as a result of self inflicted injuries, when theyoung lady attempted suicide at her home three weeks ago.
In her effort at self destruction the young lady used a shot gun andplacing the muzzle of the gun against her right side leaned over andpulled the trigger. Her position in reaching for the trigger was changedthat instead of the full charge entering the abdomen, only a portion ofthe shot found their mark. The injury inflicted was a bad one, and someof the leaden missiles punctured the intestines.
The unfortunate young lady was brought to the local hospital and it wasthought for some time she had a fighting chance to recover for hercondition appeared to improve, to such an extent that there was hopegiven out that her recovery might be brought about. A sudden andunexpected turn for the worse, in her condition developed yesterday anddeath conquered!!
The cause leading up to the tragedy is said to have been a love affair, although the details were not learned. The object of her affection showeda loverlike devotion to the young lady, lingering at her bedside whenpermitted to visit the dying girl. Realizing the error of her way, theunfortunate young lady grew remorseful when she became confronted withfact that she could not recover. Up until the time this information wasimparted she was full of hope that she would recover, and was quitecheerful but when the stamp of death was placed upon her manner, hermanner was pitiful to witness.
The girl leaves to mourn her passing, besides her parents, four brothers,Henry, West Frankfort, Fred, Barney and Everett, of near Thompsonville, and five sisters Mrs. Bell Edwards, Mrs. Pearle Hays and Mrs. Anna Bakerof West Frankfort, Mrs. Grace Harris and Lula Boyd of Thompsonville.
Funeral services will be conducted at County Line Church Wednesday at 2PM., by the Rev. Henry Jones.
