Notes
a. Note:   1. 1860 Maryland Census Living with his mother in Baltimore.
Occupation: "shoe maker". His mother was operating a shoe store in 1860. Presumably, Charles was working as a shoe maker in his mother's store.
2.. 1864 Baltimore Directory: Rasch Charles shoemaker 113 Low
  3. Civil War records (several Charles Rasch listings)
  A.Service Record:
Enlisted as a Private on 04 April 1865 (64?) Enlisted in Company C, 3rd Infantry Regiment Maryland on 04 April 1865. (64?) Mustered out Company C, 3rd Infantry Regiment Maryland on 31 July 1865 (64?) in Arlington Heights, VA

 Rank - Discharge: Private
 Allegiance: Union
 Notes: 3 Md Vol Inf.
Note: Letter from Francii Rasch to her husband Charles was addressed to "Co. T, 1st Md. Vetrons Vols., 2nd Brig. 2nd Div. 5th Corps, Army Potomac
Was the record above for a different Charles Rasch?
  4. 1870 Maryland Census
  Not Found
  Children living with grandmother, Anna
  6. 1880 Maryland Census
Charles' children were still living with their grandmother, Anna. No parents in household
However, there is a Charles J. F. Rasch, age 39, living only three families away from Anna Rasch in Baltimore in 1870. He was of exactly the same age as Charles Rasch, son of Charles and Anna. Also, the birthplace of the father of Charles J. F. Rasch in the 1880 Census was listed as Hanover which is the same birthplace as Charles Rasch of Charles and Anna. However, the birthplace listed in 1870 for the mother of Charles J. F. Rasch also was Hanover but Anna (wife of Charles, Sr.) was born either in Bremen or Prussia. Also, the wife of Charles J. F. Rasch listed in the 1880 Census was named Catherine, not Francii. Could this be the same Charles Rasch with a seocnd wife but living separately from his children? This same C. J. F. Rasch is listed in the 1900 Census with a wife Margaret and two step-daughters. This Charles Rasch and wife Margaret were still living in Baltimore in 1910.
Civil War Pension Records indicate a pension to a Charles Rasch C. 3 MD Inf. paid in Aug 1891. Charles is listed as "invalid".
  7. Civil War Letters .
Civil War letters in possession of Eleanor (Shackelford) Davis, granddaughter of Charles and Francii Rasch and great granddaughter of Charles and Anna Rasch which provide some insights into the lives of Charles and his brothers as well as proves the family relationships deduced from census records (also see letters under notes for son Anna Rasch).
