Lewis N. Hirshberg Henry Bouhers James H. Burris Baltimore City, S.S. On the 16th day ofNovember, came Lewis N. Hirshberg and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almightly God, that he doth not know of any Will or Codicil of Charlotte Hipps late of said City deceased, other than the above Testament of Writing and that he received the same from the Testator at the time it was executed and that he has retained it in his possession to the present time Charlotte Hipps late of Baltimore City, deceased, and also the evidence adddressed as to its validity, Orders and Decrees, this 22 day of November 1881, that the same be admitted in this Court as the true and genuine last Will and Testament of the said Charlotte Hipps, deceased Nelson Poe Geo. W. Bindsay John K. Carroll My notes: Copy of will indicates Charlotte Hipps signed her will with "her mark", suggesting that she could not read or write. Witnesses of wills frequently can provide clues to other family mambers. However, inthis case, the witness Lewis N. Hirshberg is listed as a "lawyer" in the 1880 Maryland Census. Presumably, therefore, he was ackting as Charlotte Hipps' lawyer and is no relation. No Henry Bouhers was found in the 1880 Maryland Census. However, perhaps the name actually is "Bucher". A Jacob Boucher was the undertaker in the death of Charlotte's granddaughter Charlotte Hipps in 1878. A James H. Burris is listed in the 1880 Maryland Census but the information does not suggest any relationship. 3. Death Certificate: Age at time of death: 72 yrs 11 months 8 days Birthplace: Germany Duration in City of Baltimore: 35 yrs (Therefore, came to Baltimore about 1846 at about age 38. From Germany?) Place of death: 211 S. Washington St. Cemetery records indicate she died of typhoid fever. 4. A Laura Hipps is listed in the 1864 Baltimore Directory as running a grocery at Bethel near Pratt Street.
