Note: nsus. Germany is confirmed as the birthplace of Rosa's parents since Germany also is specified for her parents in the 1920 Census. Also, while not indicating the country of birth, the 1870 Census lists her parents as "foreign born". However, contrary to the 1880 Census which also lists Germany as the place of birth of both parents of William Davis, the 1870 Census does not list either of William's parents as "foreign born". In addition, in the 1900 Census the birhpace of William's children is listed as "Maryland". This, taken together with the family assertions over the generations that their Davis family was of Welsh origin, suggests that the 1880 Census is incorrect in regard to the place of birth of William's parents.". 2. 1870 Baltimore Census 1st Ward Baltimore City, Post Office #243 S. Chase Street, Baltimore City William (occupation glaser at Wholesale Glass Co.) was living with his son John F. Davis in 1910. Presumably, William and Rosa had separated. 6. Who were William Davis' parents? From William's residence in Baltimore City in the 1870 Census and the residence of his wife's family in Balitmore City in previous censuses, I am assuming that William also lived in Baltimore City as a child. A. In the 1860 Maryland Census, there is only one listing of a William Davis of the approximate age. This William Davis is listed in 1860 as age 13. The birthplace of his father, John Davis, is listed as England which could fit with the family assertions that William's ancestry was Welsh. However, son William Davis was still living with this family in 1870. Therefore, this cannot be our William Davis. B. In the 1850 Maryland Census, there is a William H. Davis, age 2, living in the 1st Ward of Baltimore City. Considering that he lived in the 1st Ward, his age and his name, William H. Davis, is exact with the middle initial, this seems like the most likely family. However, I have no proof of this. 1850 Maryland Census 1st Ward, Baltimore City James H. Davis 38 Pedlar b.
