Note: n Baltimore (MSA M1549-3) which lists Schwarz, John b. 3 Mar 1817 d. abt 2 Jul 1868 h/o Margaretha born Albert. Also, in 1850 Census, there was a Geo Albert, age 16, born Germany, living in the houshold. 2. Ship Elise (see more information on ship below) Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland 8 September 1845. I, E. G. Ahlhorn, Master 177 passengers In the list of passengers arriving in Baltimore on board the ship "Elise" from Bremen, Germany, to Baltimore, Maryland 8 September 1845, there is an Albert family from Strossendorf, Bavaria, listed just above John Schwarz. The family included John Albert, 48, occupation "farmer", his wife Eva, 42, and two children, Georg, 11, and Veit, 6 months. Also listed was a Margaret Albert, age 21, occupation "servant girl". It does not state that Margaret Albert, age 21, was the daughter of John Albert. However, since she was age 21, this relationship may not have been indicated. This Margaret Albert is of the exact age to have been John Schwarz's wife Margaret Albert. Furthermore, the child Georg Albert was the exact age corresponding to the Geo Albert living with John Schwarz and his wife Margaret in 1850. While John Schwarz's destination was listed as Baltimore, the destination of the Albert family was listed as Cincinnati. It seems almost certain that this Margaret Albert did not go on to Cincinnati but married John Schwarz. Finally, in 1870 Census, John Albert, age 74, and Eva Albert, age 46(?) were living in the household of Margaret Schwarz, widow. This information indicates that John and Eva Albert in fact were the parents of Margaret. It is not clear for certain whether John Schwarz and Margaret Albert knew each other in Bavaria or met on the ship to Baltimore. However, John Schwarz's oldest child, son John, was born in Bavaria in 1844/45. It is possible that he had been married before coming to America and that Margaret Schearz was not the mother of John Schwarz, Jr. But, there is another and possibly more likely scenario. John Albert was 48 and his wife 42 when they arrived in Baltimore. Traveling with them were two other children: Georg, age 11, and an infant, age 6 months, named Veit. However, I cannot find any Veit Albert in census records from 1850 or later. It is possible that Veit was the infant son of John and Eva Albert even though Eva was 42 at the time. However, there is another possibility. It is curious that John Schwarz's first child, John, was born in 1844/45 IN GERMANY and there was a 9 month old male infant traveling with the family of his future wife Margaret Albert. Moreover, it may be more than a coincidence that John Schwarz was listed on the passenger list immediates after the Albert family. Were they all traveling together? And, could the infant Veit have been Margaret Albert's son by John Schwarz rather than her brother? Considering her age and the age of her mother, this is a distinct possibility. John and Margaret married after arriving in Baltimore. If Veit was their son, did they rename his John after their marriage? 3. 1870 Maryland Census.
