Note: Obituary A time of remembrance and fellowship to celebrate the life of George Hendricks was held at the Senior Citizen Center in Hettinger at 8 P.m. on Monday, Dec. 28. A family service was held at 1:30 that afternoon at Grace evangelical Church in Hettinger with Rev. Garry Weems officiating. Burial was in Duck Creek Cemetery, southwest of Lodgepole, South Dakota. George John Hendricks was born on May 28, 1908, in Corsica, South Dakota to John and Antje (Hartman) Hendricks. In 1909, he moved with his family to a homestead west of Lodgepole, South Dakota. After their marriage, they farmed southwest of Lodgepole and George operated a threshing route each fall, worked as a carpenter, mechanic, electrician and welder. He always said he was a jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none but a jack-of-all-trades sure had more fun. He enjoyed a good story, playing his guitar and harmonica, pitching horseshoe and bowling. George and Gladys had five children. Three sons, Eugene Lee, Lyonne David, who died in infancy, and Gary, who farms a mile away from George's place and two daughters, Gwen Schwartz of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Laurel Hofeldt of Denver, Colorado. After his wife died on Sep. 21, 1990, George continued to make his home on the farm until the fall of 1996 when failing health caused him to leave his home of 56 years and move to Hillcrest Care Center in Hettinger where he lived the rest of his life. He passed from this life on Wed.. Dec. 23, 1998 at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 26 days. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Laureen; Daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Larry Schwartz and Laurel and Dr. Fred Hofeldt; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert of Reeder, North Dakota; two sisters, Dora Kok, of Lemmon, South Dakota, and Anna Sack of Reeder, North Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
