The Jerauld, Gerould family were Huguenots exiled from France in 1685.It is thought that James was about 20 years of age when he left France. The family probably went to England for a while, Tradition states he wasone of 21 children. He first came to Boston with two of his sisters, then onto Medfield, MA about 1718 with his wife and at least 2 children.
By profession, he was a physician. There is an old legend that recordsthat on the voyage coming to America he fell in love with Martha Dupuis,or Dupee. She too was a Huguenot. He acted as her Coucher. thay had achild together. When she came of age, about 16 years, they married. Hewas probably about 38 years old then. From their headstones in the VineLake Cemetary, we can see she was only about 2 years younger then him.there are records of Martha being born in Boston, MA too. So much forlegends.

The slave, Cesar, was not to besold out of the family. Cesar went to live with Gamliel and died in 1789in Wrentham, MA.
