Wrote two letters of complaint from Campbell's Creek near Castlemaine in 1906 about an unnamed local constable behaving improperly with a married woman. Local inspector reports that the actual writer is Mrs. LEE, wife of an engine driver, who had a relationship with Constable Clifford JENKIN, No. 3529 and is now seeking revenge. 5 pages, List 3. Note - this scandal only 6 months after Laura's death is presumably why Clifford left the police force and moved to Melbourne, where he ran a newsagency in Northcote.

He left real estate valued at 2495 pounds, and personal property valued at 463 pounds. The real estate comprised three properties with houses and six vacant properties, all in Croydon. Of interest: On same page as Clifford's birth register, there is a "Thomas Odgers" - could this be the Thomas Odgers who was a funeral director at numerous of our family funerals years later?

Note: Witness on Certificate, Elizabeth Ann Jenkin, was Clifford's sister-in-law (wife of his brother Joseph Harry Jenkin). The other witness was his brother-in-law, George Henry Ely, who had married Clifford's sister Clara 4 weeks earlier. «b»From "The Mount Alexander Mail", 28 June? 1882: «/b»MARRIAGE: JENKIN - BASSETT - On the 24th May at the bride's parents by the Rev. A. Rigg, Clifford Jenkin of Harcourt to Laura Bassett of Chewton. Melbourne and Ballarat papers please copy. Family Bible held by Fay Farmer was presented to Clifford and Laura on their marriage. Inscription reads: "Presented to Laura & Clifford Jenkin by her Loving Father on their Marriage Mar 24th 1882."
