Gravestone at Inveravon reads:
"From motives of filial esteem for the memories of James Donaldson, formerly in Mains of Kirdels, who died at Bush of Edinvillie 24.4.1784 aged 71. And Janet Grant, his spouse died at Banff 16.8.1810 aged 81. This stone was gratefully erected by their affectionate daughter Anne Donaldson, Spouse to Peter Cameron, Writer in Banff".
Mains of Kirdels lies in the parish of Knockando.

A Testament Dative was drawn up in 1794 [?] for James Donaldson late in Kirdels, so he evidently died intestate. Mrs Janet Grant was his executrix.

“James Donaldson in Kirdels” is referred to in 1760, as having received some money from James Gordon in Gortons (in Knockando). In notes in the Tammore MSS at the British Museum, referred to in Scottish Notes & Queries May 1906, in correspondence regarding the Gorton Gordons.

--- Allachie Drive is shown on the current Ordnance Survey Explorer map as a road leading up from Aberlour towards Knock of Allachie, Daugh of Allachie and Wood of Allachie. Beyond these, and reached by a different road, is Burnside of Allachie, lying on the opposite bank of the Burn of Allachie. There's also Glenallachie Distillery, but that was not there in the 1830s! This map shows housing on what is now Allachie Drive; from the layout of the buildings it is easy to tell that they are new, and this is confirmed because there are only a couple of very small buildings on the 1969 one-inch map. Of all these names, only Burnside is a farm or other habitation.
The 1901 one-inch map also shows the road, Wood of Allachie and Burnside of Allachie, but no buildings at all along it.
The 1872 map at www.old-maps.co.uk shows the road passing along the Braes of Allachie. It also shows Daugh of Allachie, Wood of Allachie, Knock of Allachie, Tom of Allachie, Burnside of Allachie and the Burn of Allachie.

Could this be him - probably not as I have seen no reference to him at Hatton:
ONE of the factors in the district caused to be cried regularly every Sunday the following “The tenants o' Carron an' Allachie are requested tae pay their arrears o' rent." Some of the tenants were naturally very much nettled at this intimation, and one Sunday one of them — Mr J. Donaldson, Hatton — on hearing the intimation, shouted with a sufficiently loud voice “Name them”.
