Note: N11393 Was an agricultural labourer in Forncett St Mary, Norfolk, in 1851. --- Borh he and his wife Lucy signed their marriage certificate with a mark, ie they were illiterate. --- [At the age of 50, 2 years after the death of his first wife Lucy], he went to Natal on the barque "Jane Morice" in 1855. Francis Richard Bloy came on same ship. His brother Robert Bloy followed in 1857. --- Called their farm New Forncett, which still exists in Natal. They evidently moved to the farm in or just before 1859, judging by a letter from Jane to Mary in Nov 1859. --- Tharston, where he married, is about 2 miles from Forncett St Mary. --- Intriguingly he was still entitled to vote at Forncett Mary in the 1857 election (but he did not vote). Means he must have still owned land there? --- William Alborough. Farmer. Alborough and two of his three children, William and Jane, came to Natal with Bishop Colenso’s missionary party. In July 1857, when he applied to the Government for a land grant, he described himself as a ‘agriculturist’ of Ekukhanyeni (the Bishop’s mission station). Alborough was successful in his bid to get a government farm. On 2 Nov 1857 he was issued with the title to Lot 91, Ward 5, Pietermaritzburg County. This property, which he named New Forncett, is near Boston. Alborough married for the second time on 15 Sep. 1866. His [2nd] wife was Agnes Graham (c. 1843, Carlisle, Cumberland - Dec. 1922, buried Boston), the daughter of James Graham of Carlisle, and presumably the sister of Rowland Graham [see entry in this book]. The marriage took place on Rowland Graham's ... (* Derek Austin pondokie@hotmail.com) --- William Colenso (mentioned in one of Jane’s letters), vicar of Forncett St. Mary from 1844, was appointed Bishop of Natal (appointed 1852, arrived Jan 1854). His tenure in Natal was highly controversial due to his liberal ideas towards the “kaffirs”. --- Had another 6 children by 2nd wife Agnes Graham.
