"My [Ernie West’s] Henry [West] (b 1825)'s father was a William West b. Feb 8 1784 in Powderham and married 15 April 1805, Harriet (b. Kenton Devon 15 May 1782), dau of Dr Thomas Fryer of Exeter.
William’s father was a John West b 1750 he married a Mary Wilson.
John’s father John was christened 14 Aug 1705.
John snr’s father was James West, [of Down St. Mary], married to a Margaret Southcott May 4 1691 at Powderham. He was a church warden. Apparently the Southcotts go way back to the Fitzwilliams, and are said to still live in the area.
