Father of Ashford John Anstruther, qv, and of Robert Lindsay Anstruther, qv (List of the Officers of the Bengal Army, 1758-1834: A-C. Vernon Charles Paget Hodson. 1927.) * Can’t find any reference to George Mence of any relevance. --- His brother Philip had issue. His father had taken his mother’s surname, but David evidently kept his grandfather’s name. --- “The Hon David Anstruther built a house, Felicity Hall near Moorshedabad, India. There are pictures of a painting of it on the web. Does anyone know if it is still standing?” --- Served in the Bengal cavalry from 1778 to 1794, when he resigned the service. Commander of the bodyguard of the Grand Wazir of Oudh. --- Louisa Anne, daughter of Captain Hon David Anstruther, was married to Cornet George Hilliard 10 Nov 1809 in Bengal. Had issue. --- Married Miss Donaldson of Allachie in Aberdeenshire, and had issue: FRANCIS LESLIE, an officer in the East India Company's service, died at Madras, December 1777. WILLIAM LESLIE, born in June 1759, married, 2d November 1791, Miss Senior, niece of Sir Robert Smith, a general in the Danish service, and Governor of Rendsburg. Collected from public records and authentic private sources.) *BLG re Ayshford Sanford of Chipley Park says JOHN SANFORD, of Nynehead; married Hon Jane Anstruther, daughter of Sir Alexander Anstruther, by his wife Baroness Newark (see BURKE'S Dormant and Extinct Peerage), and died 1779. (seems she was in fact that Alexander Anstruther’s great granddaughter.) --- The 4th son David Leslie ANSTRUTHER served in the Bengal Army 1 Jan 1778-12 May 1794. = Feb 1780, at Cossimbazar, nr. Calcutta, Mary DONALDS of the family of DONALDS of Allochie*, and had two sons and three daughters, Mary, Charlotte and Louisa, who married ___ HILLIARD. He is said to have died at Reading c. 1825; his wife Mary deceased 27 July 1827. (Fiona Mitford to: Reveley@googlegroups.com, 2008.) * There is a place called Allochie in Aberdeenshire, but it does not seem that the Donaldsons came from there. It should be Allachie in Aberlour.
