Heserved in the outh African War; was mentioned in Despatches, received the Queen's medal with three clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 19 April, 1901]: "Ashley
 Paget Wilmot Williams, Capt., British South African Police. In recognition of service during the operations in South Africa."
