a. Note:  
 In October 1891 Walter was secretary of the Australian Shearers union at Wagga Wagga.

  

 He published a new Labor paper called the "Hummer" and a monthly journal "New Australia" by November 1892.

  

 He became treasurer and then secretary of the "New Australian Settlement Association" which set up a short lived utopian Socialist settlement in Paraguay.

  

 Walters eldest son Walter charles (wally) sailed with the first contingent in July 1893 in the care of David Stevenson (a relative of Robert Louis Stevenson).

  

 The rest of the family were due to follow on a latter contingent but didn't make the journey.

  

 Walter latter seperated from his wife & moved to Tasmania under the name of Walter Allan Woods and remarried after his wife died and had another family.

  

 He was a founder of the Tasmanian Labor Party, Editor of the labor party reriodical "Clipper" and a member of the House of Assembly for 17 years.

  

 <p style="text-align: left;">He died at the age of 78.
