Notes
a. Note:   The following notes were compiled by "Jean Robertson Smith (nee Murray)" in 1996

William Doyne (Dyne) Which is his correct name?? He signed his own name as Dyne on his marriage certificate. This information said he came from Liverpool. Either coming from Liverpool or Ireland the name would sound like Doyne to anyone else. His wife could not write (m/c) so forever after they became, and still are Doyne.

William married Anastasia Cain on April 29th 1857 at the home of Mr. McDonald, Armidale Station, Gippsland. John McDonald was a witness and so was either his wife or possibly his sister. Armidale Station, about six miles South of Sale, was leased by Alex and John McDonald from 1846 - 1876 when the Pastoral Lease was cancelled (from Pastoral Pioneers of Port Philip by Billis & Kenyon). On the marriage certificate it states that William was born in Liverpool about 1827 to William Dyne, labourer and Sarah Dyer. I am still trying to find this (15 years later). Anastasia states she was born to Edward Cain, Bootmaker, and Judith Welsh at Innistail. I know she came from Kilkenny, Ireland, but cannot find this place, nor the place named on her death certificate. Still looking!!

They state their usual residence is Datson Station where he is a labourer and she is a domestic servant. Dutson Station at the mouth of Latrobe River, Lake Wellington was leased by John McNaughton from Dec 1853 to Dec 1879 when it was cancelled (from Pastoral Pioneers). On December 27th 1864, their son Edward, 19 months died at Fiddlers Creek where his parents were working as shepards. Fiddlers Creek, a part of Strathfieldsay Station near Stratford was owned by Samuel Bolden. Edward is buried in a lone grave at Fiddlers Creek (from Lonely Graves of the Gippsland Goldfields and Greater Gippsland by J.G. Rogers & Nellie Helyer). William died July 31st, sheperd. Information on d/c was given by a Mr. Pope, aquaintance from Fiddlers Creek, near Stratford.

The family story was: He died as he went out the door to work of a heart attack, 40 yrs old (as did his son Joseph). He left behind five children, the youngest 8 mths. I cannot find either of them arriving in Australia. I have tried every archive I can. I am quite cinvinced they must have came on the back of a whale!!.

He was buried at Stratford, Vic.
