Continued: Florence âOliveâ Margaret Murray was the eldest of 10 children of Fred & Trevena Wright. She was brought up on a farm in the Barham Valley, Apollo Bay in a time when there was no cars, no electricity, too far to go to school and plenty of hard manual labour to do, as well as assist her mother bring up the younger children. She met David, who was working constructing the Great Ocean Road, and married 0n 31st May 1930. When WW2 broke out, David enlisted in 1939, and left Olive to raise Jean and Athol until his discharge on medical grounds in 1943. Olive worked very hard and saved to buy the family home, raise the children, and support David through his war injuries and problems. She was a very strong woman, both mentally and physically. She was self-taught, as she only attended school for 1 year, when she was 14. She loved reading, (always books to learn from) cooking, knitting, gardening and religion. She always had a positive outlook and thirst for knowledge, and was a great believer in the ability to achieve through that extra effort. Her strong will and tenacity could be sometimes mistaken for being âPig headedâ. She was more than a Mother. Olive and David had three children Jean B: 1931, Athol B: 1938 - 1986 and Victor B: 1948.
