Though the family experiencedfinancial hardships there was always happiness to be found andmusic. All the family members played a musical instrument andmany evenings would find the "family band" rehearsing a newselection. The whole family enjoyed church and roller-skating,(though not at the same time), and it was at a roller skatingrink that Mom met her husband and life-long partner, Vic. Herhusband Vic wrote: "I met my wife while in the CCC's. I was 18by now and I thought she was 17. I didn't ask how old she wasbut three months later she had a birthday and she became 14.She was the first and only girlfriend I ever had. I was stillafraid of girls and didn't know how to show love. We wenttogether for four months before I asked her if I could kiss herand she said yes. It scared me half to death. Well, we didkiss but I was awkward and she didn't know much about it either. So we both decided we would have to do a lot of practicing.World War II came after the CCC's so I joined the Army. Inezand I got married after three years of courtship on July 11th,1943. Six months later I was sent overseas. Then came ourfirst child, Shirley Ella, born January 6, 1944." The war over, their daughter, Diana Louise, was born July 17th, 1946. Thencame Larry on March 28th, 1950. Mom announced to Dad that hehad a son now and that she was through having babies. Theymoved from Oregon to California in 1954 where Mom's brother,Raymond Stanley Turrell, helped Dad get a job at Northrop. Momwas always kept busy with us kids and church and occasionallyworked out of the home. When Mom's mother died in 1972 Mom foundherself the guardian of the Turrell family records. They becameinvolved in the Northrop camping club and for many years enjoyedtheir monthly campouts and meeting new friends. When theyfinally settled in Placentia they became active in the Calvarychurch. When Dad's health began to fail Mom brought him a tapeof the services so he could hear it at home. Mom soon took overthe enormous task of organizing and copying the tape library atthe church. Vic went to be with Jesus at 6:30 a.m., December25th, 1989. She would have to take insulin and have dialysis 3times a week for the rest of her life. Many months later Momcame home and her son Larry and his wife moved into the sparebedroom to take care of her. After many long months Mom beganto improve and finally she was driving herself to dialysis inBrea and to church and to the store. She was determined to beindependent. It was on a Tuesday morning, January 16th, duringdialysis that she suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed onher right side and unable to speak.
