Note: Served in US Navy during WW II. ----- Birth: May 23, 1920 Death: Feb. 9, 2000 The Burlington Times-News February 11, 2000 Mr. John R. Porterfield BURLINGTON - Mr. John R. Porterfield Jr., 79, of Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the center after one year of failing health. He was formerly of Highland Avenue, Burlington. A native of Orange County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Alma Draughn Porterfield and the son of Mr. John Roney Porterfield and Mrs. Annie Bradsher Porterfield, both deceased. He was a former employee of Associated Transport and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include four sons, Mr. John William Porterfield of Graham, and Mr. Kenneth Ray Porterfield, Mr. James Lee Porterfield and Mr. Claude Harvey Porterfield, all of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Erwin Lee Porterfield. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Randy Hobbs. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Kenneth Ray Porterfield, 1713 Malone Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
