Note: He served in the 5th Calvary during the Civil War. All of this line of Corls were moved to Vale Cemetery from their original burial grounds between Front and Green Streets, Schenectady, NY around 1871. I found these items in the Baptism Record of the Schenectady Reformed Church which may interest you: "Father, David S. Corl; mother Jane Elder; child John; born 14 May; baptised 9 Aug. 1812" "Father, David Corl; mother Jane Elder; child William deLine; born 7 April; baptised 4 June 1809" "Father, David Corl; mother Jane Elder; child William, baptised 23 Sept, 1810" If the first child William died in infancy, which would account for the next child being named William as well, this last William would be the one son enumerated in the 1810 census. 1810 Federal Census Schenectady County, NY David Corl, males to 10 years--1; males 16 - 16--1; females 16 - 26--1 1830 census: David S. Corl, Rotterdam, Schenectady Co., NY 1 male under 5 1 male 5 - 10 1 male 10 - 15 1 male 15 - 20 1 male 20 - 30 1 male 40 - 50 (David) 1 female under 5 2 females 5 - 10 1 female 40 - 50 (Jane) I don't know if you like to play with these early censuses. It can be frustrating. The male 20 - 30 would be William; male 15 - 20 would be John; male 11 - 15 would be Richard We don't know about James' age--he is likely the male 5 - 10. As you can see there is one extra male, presuming the first William died; and 2 extra females, presuming Hannah is one of the 3 female children. Deed 188 14 Jan. 1826, Mehittable Elder, Mehittable Elder 2nd, John Elder, Mary E. Van Valkenburgh, Jane Corl wife of David Corl, John Quant and wife Margaret, Hannah Elder, to Anna (Nancy) Van Eps: Land in Rotterdam 3 miles south west of Schenectady, south side of Mohawk River, mentions Princetown Road...Mrs Corl & Mrs. Quant were examined separately..." [Jane Elder Corl was the wife of David Springer Corl, son of William Corl & Mary Springer. William lived in Rotterdam at least for a time.] *** I received the probate file of David S. Corl in the mail today. I urge you to send for a copy. It cost $2.25 for nine pages. Ask for the probate of David S. Corl, with Richard S. Corl executor, box 185, found in Book 1- 1809 - 1916, vol. 8. The date of David's death is 6 November 1872. Schenectady Surrogate Court, 612 State St., Schenectady, NY 12305. I think for the small cost you will be very pleased. It did not copy well enough for me to try to scan it, also it is on legal sized paper, but it's definitely something you will want to have. I will give you the gist of it. David S. Corl died at Schenectady, NY, 6th of November 1872 and his wife Jane E. Corl died at Schenectady on the 9th day of January 1866. The probate dates from 1875, "and they left no children who were born after the 3rd day of March 1834; but left the following children, which are all of them, and they are named, aged and reside as follows: "John Corl, age 65 of Utica, NY; Henry Corl, age 61 of Illinois - no P. O. can be given; Mahitable M. Proper, 59 of Schenectady; Richard S. Corl, 56, of Schenectady; Jennie M. Paine, 53, of Schenectady; James E. Corl, 49, of Schenectady; Hannah M. Daniels, 42, of Schenectady" Included is a claim for military bounty land warrant, papers signed by Richard S. Corl, and an affadavit by Mahitable Corl Proper which states there were 9 children born to this family and only the list above are living, etc. Suzanne Frantz Nov 2004 ADDITIONAL SOURCE: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/jdill/pafg200.htm#6671
