Note: Shirley believes this family went to Cuba. Shirley made contact with Lesly Anne Vincent in Texas who grandmother was Sinji Nordberg from Cuba. Shirley's Theory (10/2006) Went to Cuba in about 1909. Not sure why. May have gone with another faimily (Grahn) Grahn came from Sweden, may have helped Ernest get to the US and later to Cuba. Shirley assumes with whole family. Below is fact based on Docs from Leslie's docs set to Shierly. Knows his daughter (Singna) lived in Cuba for some time and Married a man (Atho Dee Vivian a Texas Ranger) on 9/24/1924 in Moron, Cuba. Singne and Atho later moved to Texas. Shirley made contact with Singne Grand Dau (Leslie) and got lots of famity data from her. Son Ernest H. never married, moved to TX in 19xx, and later moved to FL where he died. Dau Ellen married twice, had no children, at some point lived in Pellem NY and New Rochelle NY. Son Clemence (Clarance in Cuba) stayed in Cuba. Ran a Farm (Sugar Plantation). Reads like Clarance was forced to give Blood for Fidel Castro's army and believed died of donatinf to much. From Shirley (Brown) Day's FTW data Base: According to Aunt Vera, this is the one that moved to Cuba, and then to Michigan (she thinks.) All info listed under Ernst is what has been gathered about Ernest W., from records in Brockton City Hall, gathered by Bill Allard and e-mailed to me. Later learned that his sister Elin lived in Michigan. Bill also e-mailed me that Ernest died in FL. I think he got that info on internet. 1898 Brockton street listing shows Ernest at 148 Menlo St, occupation painter 1900 occupation is "shoe opr." age 35. From 1901 - 1910 he's at same address, back to "painter." No listing in 1911. Where'd he go? Cuba??? (From Bill Allard e-mail 8/2005) YES!!! Went to Cuba. 1900 Census Records Living at MenloSt., married (Christine) with 2 kids (Ellen & Ernest H.) Been in US 21 years; is naturalized citizen. Occupation painter---"months not employed -- 0" Can read and write and speak English. Owns mortgaged house. Emmigrated in 1879. If that is accurate, he would have been only 14 years old. Who did he come with???? Could he have come alone? E. W. is "Friend's name" Passenger List record for Knut & his mother. Records show EW paid passage for both, who arrived with $5 each. Menlo St. is the address to which they are going. 1906 Brockton Directory shows Ernest W. as owner, "Nordberg and Quinlan" Not sure what kind of business this might be, or who Quinlan is. William Nordberg (boarder at 13 Auburn St. C.)is a laborer at N&Q in 1906. 1907 Ernest W. owner, N&Q -- John Nordberg (16 East Market St. C) driver for N&Q, Knut at 18 Forest St. laborer, N&Q. Nordberg and Quinlan Paper Hanging was a partnership between Ernest W. Nordberg and Jeremiah G. Quinlan. It was apparently not prosperous enough to pay for advertisements in the local business directories of the time, as they were not listed in bold type as being advertisers in any of the sponsoring publishers of these listings. (From B. Allard e-mail.) 1908 Ernest W. is painter. Looks like business is over. 1909 Ernest is printer, 296A No. Main. I wonder if this is a type, and should be a painter. Wonder what 296A Main could be. E's home address is still 148 Melo St. Swedish records show him living at Barnangsgatan 8 1883-1887. According to 1900 census records he was in US in 1879.
