Union St.; 1941 Carl (B) 44 Clifton St.; 1942 Carl E. (Florence) shoe cutter (H) 21 Highland St. 1944 Retired, (B) 1119 Montello St. 1945 (B) 1119 Montello St; He died in 1946.
 (H) Head of household (B) Boarder (C) Campello -- a section of Brockton
1900 St. Listing shows address as 35 Forest St. Fed. Census shows 70 Riverview
1908 Carl M E AND Carolina, his widowed mother, are both BOARDERS at 21 Grand St.
1909 Carl M E still boarder. No mention of Carolina
1936 Carl E. (no occupation) boarder at 14 East Union St. This was Lena's home!!
1941 Carl (no occupation) boarder at 44 Clifton (This might not be OUR Carl)
1942 Carl E. shoe cutter (H) at 21 Highland St. Florence is listed with him. Who's she??
1944 Carl E. retired boarder at 1119 Montello St.
1945 Carl E. retired boarder at 1119 Montello St.
Up until 1906 he's head of a household. 1907 he's a boarder, 1908 he and his mother are boarders at same address, he's still a boarder at same address in 1909, but mother is gone. Then he disappears from Brockton records---showing up again in 1936 as a boarder.
He lived with both Grandma & Aunt Nellie at some time. Aunt Nell was married in 1926. In 1930 census Nellie and Bill and 2 kids were living at 539 No. Main, upstairs over Grandma & Grandpa and 5 kids. I don't imagine there would have been enuf room for "Uncle Bill" (aka Carl) there.
1918 -- Sept. 12--- Carl Emanuel Nordberg---Oakland St., Mansfield Naturalized citizen. 6 feet tall, medium build, blue eyes, light brown hair. TWO LEGS MISSING; bad scars on forehead and nose. Works at Shields Foundry as an iron molder. Next of kin---Mrs. Lena Nordberg, 17 first St., Brockton. Relationship--mother, but written over and might say "wife." From World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 Record Ancestry.com
Where has Carl (Bill) gone? From his mother's (Carolina) obit, 1923 --- a surviving son, Emanuel in Mansfield. Guess that's where Bill is. He doesn't show up in the 1920 Census
Gerri (Allard) Tripp told me in a phone coversation 6/23/06 of a childhood memory. She and her mom, visited with "Uncle Bill" in a park-like setting. She wasn't sure where it was---but there was a tall monument there. Uncle Bill had no legs at all. Gerri was around 3 at the time---so this would have been about 1945. He died in 1946.
Knut is living on Oakland St. in 1920 Census. Carl isn't listed as a member of household---but might have been living with Knut 1918. Carl did live with Knut at some point---Alfreda threw him out because he drank too much.
*****Stuff below has been printed out.
"Uncle Bill" the family name for a brother of Knute (I think its this guy) lived with Aunt Nellie Nordberg for a while; also lived with Knute & Alfreda, but Grandma threw him out cuz he drank too much.
See Carl Magnus Emanuel for other info. I'm sure they're the same guy as Carl & Emanuel.
Telephone conv. with Aunt Vera 6/1/01 She said "Uncle Bill" was also called something else--couldn't understand what she said. Then she said she thought this name "Mookie" or something like that was Swedish for Emmanuel. Aunt Nellie said Uncle Bill lived with her for a time, and when he got drunk was apt to get very pompous and remind people his REAL name was Carl Magnus Emmanuel.
Rose Nordberg's father-in-law was Oscar. She also knew of Uncle Bill. There was a young child, Oscar, living with Grandpa and his mother in Sweden before they left. Child stayed there Eventually Oscar came to US, but don't know when. According to info from Lennart, that child is NOT related to us.
From info in Brockton records, I'm pretty sure this is Uncle Bill. According to 1989 Brockton City List Emanuel C. Nordberg was living at 17 First Street, age 23, occupation--laborer. He moved to 35 Forest St. thru 1899 & 1900, same occupation given. But was not listed in any records after that. Why?
