Note: From Shirley (Brown) Day: In Obit for Carolina Nordberg, 7/14/1923 ... She leaves two daughters, Mrs. O. F. Kritzner of Niles, Michigan and Mrs. Sundholm with whom she made her home, and three sons, Ernest Nordberg of Cuba, Emanuel and Knute Nordberg of Mansfield. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mrs. Nordberg had been a resident of this city for the past 24 years and was an attendant of the Swedish Methodist Church. Services held at church Monday 2 p.m with ev. Gustaf Setterstrom officiating. Interment will be at Melrose cemetery. Mrs. OF Kritzner must be Elin since Anna is Mrs. Sundholm. Elin Eugenia Nordberg, born Nov. 5, 1867 at Ljustero, Bolby Kristinelund. Came with family from Erstavik, Nacka and lived at Barnangsgatan 8 from 1882 until July 11, 1888 when she went on to Gavle. April 9, 1889 she leaves from Gothenburg, traveling alone. --- Otto F. Kritzner born in Wisconsin, father Frederick and mother Caroline Kachler. Otto was married to an E Ellen Nordberg 29th of January in Manhattan, NY. (Info from Lennart) This would have to be January, 1890 Could she have been a "mail order" bride? Neither Otto nor either of his parents were born in Sweden. How would O & E have met? Ellen E. Nordberg(age 22) left Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland on the Adriatic, arrival date in New York May 4, 1889. (New York Passenger Lists Record Ancestry.com) Our Elin would have been 22 in NOVEMBER of 1889. This might not be the same one. 1900 Census --- Otto F. and Ellen living at 780 Perry St. Lake View, Illinois (Town of Lake View, Chicago City---from Federal Census June 9, 1900) They have 3 children and his mother living with them. Otto's father born in Germany, mother in Denmark. Otto's occupation is Lithographer. He owns his mortgaged home. 1910 Census -- Otto and Ellen living in "Niles Ward 3, Berrien, Michigan Still have 3 children living with them. Mother is gone. Ellen is listed as Ella. This record says his mother was born in Germany. 1920 Census Otto and Ellen and one daughter, Minola living on Oak St. Niles City, Michigan. The records of Ellen's immigration and naturalization both show "un" --- unknown?? Minola, the daughter is employed as a stenographer at an Electric company. Otto owns his home free and clear. He is employed as a lighogapher in an engraving plant. 1930 Census Otto and Ella (they sure do have trouble with her name!) living at same place. He owns the house, valued at $7000. He also has a radio! He was 32 and Ella 24 at the time of their marriage, but it looks like it's done ok. They are now aged 72 and 63. He is employed as a clerk at a grocery store. He is also listed as a veteran of WW (world war.) Ljustero,Bolby Kristinelund (east coast, outside Stockholm)
