Note: 12/24/1991 I (Allen S. Mowatt) got much of my initial information about the Mowatt and Cunningham family from work that Alice Canham (Mowatt) had done. She started to collect and write down information in 1965. ON THE "MOWATT" FAMILY: Alice Canham (Mowatt) wrote that Percy W. Mowatt said: 1 Grandfather was a ship builder & came from Belfast, (Northern part of Ireland (or did he come through Belfast from Scotland?)) 2 Grandfather & Grandmother (on honeymoon) emigrated; landed in New York and immigrated to Canada. 3 The Government gave them land to settle on. 4 Grandfather gave a parcel of land to the Community Church - Now named "St. David Episcopal". Alice also added; 1 Father's mother's home still stands on Bay Road, St. Stephens, Canada. 2 All children (of Thomas & Alice) born on Bay Road, St. Stephens, Canada. 3 Births recorded in St. Stephens, (St. Andrews) NB, Canada. 4 Alice Whitman, Whiteman, Wightman? ("Wightman" from Mowatt Family Bible) Alice wrote, from a document printed in Great Britain "The Clans & Tartans of Scotland" (written by Robert Bain). Sept - Mowat (one "t") Clan - Sutherland ON THE "BRIDGES" FAMILY: Alice Canham (Mowatt) wrote that Alice B. Libby (Cunningham) said: "Grampa Bridges came to this country from Ireland. Came to Surry, ME and built his home on Chain Lake. Poled the lumber from East Orland to his home site on a raft. He built his home at the top of the hill, carrying all that lumber for about 1/2 mile uphill. Cleared the land, freed it of rocks; building rock walls. It was a good farm and large when it was given to (Alice L's)ad at Grandfather's death. Grandfather & Grandmother Bridges died within a week of each other. They contacted Erysipelas and couldn't survive. Mother and Dad lived with them and Gramma Cunningham. Mother cared for them until they passed away. Arthur was 3 years old. Hazel one year old."
