Note: [Thomas Dixon.FTW] The following is an oral history that was given by Martin J. Dixon. I was not able to tell when the history was done (it had to be between 1893 and 1917). Martin Dixon Born - St. Croix Co., WI -Dec. 14, 1875. Son of Thos. & Kate (Conway) Dixon, both natives of Ireland, coming to America in an early day; settling in St. Croix Co., WI, where Martin was born. He came to Pipestone Co., MN., with his parents when a child when his father homesteaded in N.N.W. 14. And here is where Martin got schooling and grew up. He has worked on his father's homestead all the time, has had charge of the farm since his Father died in 1893. He lives with his Mother on the old homestead. He was the 2nd. youngest of a family of 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls all living, but 1 dead. Member of Catholic church M.W.A. Lodge Single The following is the Obituary for Martin Dixon from the Pipestone County Star of January 5, 1956 on Pg. 1, Col. 6, Para, 3: "Martin Dixon Dies; Funeral to be Monday Martin Dixon, age 79 passed away at his home in Pipestone on Wednesday at 10:10 A.M. Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 A.M., in St. Leo's Catholic Church here. Pallbearers will be Henry Ihlan, Paul Floody, John Bergin, Don Moriarity, Art Paradis and Henry Agnitach. Martin Dixon was born Dec. 14 1876. In 1878 the family moved to Sweet township in Pipestone County, where Martin lived all of his life until 1952, at which time he moved to Pipestone. He leaves to mourn his death, two sisters, Anna, at home here, and Mrs Mary Conolly of Wahpeton, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He had never married." Martin attended the funeral for John W. Connolly (his sister Mary's husband) on 20 August 1948 in Wahpeton, ND.
