  James came to Aetna township as a young boy (17 yrs old) and lived on a farm in Pipestone county for many years. The family started life in the new county under most adverse financial conditions, but hard times eventually vanished and there came the dawn of more prosperous days. Reared and educated in the town of Wigan, Lancashire, England. In 1881, the family immigrated to America and journeyed directly to Pipestone county. His father Aaron homesteaded land in section 12, in Grange township. In 1932 moved to Iowa City, IA. He returned to Pipestone in 1937, where he resided at 715 3rd Ave. SW., until his death.

  1920 Census lists James, Julia, Francis, Catherine, Lloyd, Myrtle, Flora Ott, and Florence Taylor (nephew age 14). Catherine and Flora were both teachers.
