Note: [Thomas Dixon.FTW] Obituary for Jeremiah D. Dixon - From the Murdock Leader of 4 November 1937. Jerry Dixon of DeGraff Buried Funeral services were held Sunday at St. Bridgid's church, DeGraff, for Jerry Dixon, a resident of Swift county for the past 36 years, who died at his home in that village on Thursday, October 28, after an illness of about 6 days of lombar pneumonia. He was 68 years of age at the time of his death, which accrued about 10 o'clock in the evening. Funeral rites were held at 10 o'clock Sunday morning, Rev. John J. Troy officiating, and burial was made in the DeGraff cemetery. Pall bearers were Martin Lally, Gus Kersting, James Dean, J. F. McNelis, Ed. Dolan and John Gilronan. Jeremiah D. Dixon was born in the vicinity of Erin Prairie, Wis. in July 1869. His family moved to Pipestone, Minn. when he was 12 years of age and he made his home at that place for approximately 20 years before coming to Swift county. He engaged in farming in the vicinity of DeGraff for 16 years, and then moved into that Village to engage in the trade of harness making, being occupied in that occupation until the time of his death. He was married to Miss Margaret Sullivan of DeGraff on June 26, 1935. Surviving him are his wife, two brothers, Martin and Anthony Dixon in Pipestone, and three sisters, Mrs. James Arrowsmith, and Miss Annie Dixon of Pipestone and Mrs. James Connolly of Wahpeton, No. Dak. Among those from a distance who attended wake service or the funeral were Frank Arrowsmith of Pipestone, Mr. and Mrs. James Connolly and son of Wahpeton, Miss Margaret Matthews, Mrs. James McCarthy, Mr. and Mrs. Allen O'Brien, and Mrs. Fred O'Brien all of Minneapolis and Hugh Davitt and Mrs M. Driscoll of St. Paul, Mrs. James Arrowsmith, Martin and Anthony Dixon and Miss Annie Dixon of Pipestone. Obituary notes: Jerry Dixon was also known as Darby. His family called him Darby during the 1870 census of 1 July where he was 6 and during the 1880 census of 14 June where he was 17. In his mother's obituary of 11 January 1917 he is D. J. of DeGraff. I think his given name was Jeremiah Darby Dixon, his family used his middle name and he preferred Jerry in his latter years. Mr. and Mrs. James Connolly are really John W. Connolly.
