Notes
a. Note:   e is from his son's death certificate.also on the certificate it states that the elder Charles and his wife, (name unknown) were both born in Norway. " Family FOLKLORE " has it that there were SIX Charles'. So far we have five on file!
Ole/Ola was likely to be his father's name. Hammer is probably the farmname where he came from. hammer is a more typical name in the southern part of Møre og Romsdal. There are some Hammer farms in Trøndelag.

Yes, Ole Olsen Hammer is your ancestor. He is not easy to catch, but I have looked a little. I work from the theory that he was born in the 1790's. If so, he is not born in Kvernes parish where he later married and fathered his children.
AS the Lutheran Church was the state religion I think it is fair to suppose that this was the predominant religion in the area. It was not until the 1840's that other denominations were allowed to proselytize in Norway.

I wonder if this is your Ole Hammer's death record from 1856. He is listed as a deck-hand as he is at his wedding. He is 77 years old which makes him born about 1779. His residence is Chsund (Krisitiansund) SAT, Arkivreferanse ukjent*, Ministerialbok nr. 2b, 1855-1865, s. 5
