Note: Jack Carson Swaney, 85, of Sophia, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Jack was born August 23, 1928 to the late Henry and Sarah Garren Swaney. He retired from High Point Furniture and was a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting. He enjoyed woodworking and playing the banjo, guitar, and mandolin. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Crotts Swaney; sister, Francis Luther; brothers, Doc Swaney and Charles Swaney; and great-grandson, Noah Turpin.
Jack is survived by daughters, Shirley Price and husband Charles of High Point, Elaine Price and husband Tommy and Pamela Worley and husband Sterling, all of Sophia; sisters, Gladys Hinshaw and husband Paul, Bobbie Tysinger and husband Kenneth, Doris Gordon and husband Jaffie, all of Asheboro; brothers, Arthur Swaney and wife Hilda, Ted Swaney and wife Louise, Donald Swaney and wife Bonnie, all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Tim Price, Johnny Price, Sarah Griffin, Brad Turpin, Jason Turpin, Emily Cruey; 12 great-grandchilren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held Friday, December 6th at 11 am at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the interment at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall.
